At the beginning of 2008, China Changzhou and Dalian's Bus Rapid Transit(BRT) Lines have been put into operation. With previously opened Beijing and Hangzhou BRT Lines, China has so far owned four BRT Lines. Besides these Chinese cities, Kunming, Hefei, Jinan, Shenzhen and Xiamen's BRT Lines are under construction, in addition, Xi'an, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Qingdao, Shenyang, Wuhan, Nanjing, Suzhou, Fuzhou, Taiyuan, Haikou are considering building city BRT Lines.
The reasons why so many Chinese cities choose BRT lie in: Firstly, BRT are more efficient than common public transport. Secondly, compared with subway and light rail which have long construction period and large investment, BRT has the advantages like economical and comparatively lower investment. Thirdly, most of Chinese city right now are incapable to build subway and light rail, BRT is a more appropriate and economical choice for them.
Facing such a precious opportunity, Most China Bus & Coach enterprises have now launched BRT bus and BRT solutions. Some 18-meter long articulated BRT buses are now appeared in some Chinese cities. Nevertheless, how to develop appropriate BRT buses which are more suitable for each city is also a question for most of China Bus & Coach enterprises.
