Changan Steps into North American
english.Chinabuses.com 2008-11-06

Changan Automobile Group, Ford Motor's China partner, said recently it will roll out 30 electric autos developed jointly with Electrovaya in Canada before the end of this year, potentially becoming the first Chinese auto maker to tap the North American market.

According to the deals, Electrovaya is responsible for the distribution of electric autos, assembled in Canada. Changan, a Chinese automaker, will eventually develop the made-in-China clean energy autos on its own and ship them to the hotly contested market.

Changan Auto Co., Ltd, is one of the most renowned automakers in China and its headquarters is located in Chongqing. It first dabbled in the auto industry in 1957. Changan is a fast-growing group. It has three production bases, one each in the southwest, east and north of China. It cooperated with international auto leaders such as Ford, Mazda and Suzuki and has established several joint ventures in China.
