The Bus
lanes of Beijing can't far satisfy the demand, now the department
concerned is planning the ground fast public transit system of Beijing,
Mr. Liu Xiaoming, deputy director of Beijing Traffic Management
Bureau revealed days ago. In the year of 2004, the bus lanes of
Beijing would reach to 130 kilometers, there will be 400 kilometers
of bus lanes network in Beijing by 2008, at that time, public transportation
is expected to share 60% of commuter's traffic, in which the proportion
of the rail traffic is 20%.
To the situation of traffic jam appearing in Beijing recently, Mr.
Liu Xiaoming and Mr. Zhou Zhengyu, the deputy directors of Beijing
Traffic Management Bureau expressed at the press conference, Beijing
must take for developing the public transport including rail traffic
as the important measure to alleviate the traffic jam throughout.
The existing traffic resource of Beijing is not enough to support
the situation taking car as main means of transportation, under
this condition, must accelerate developing the public transit and
rail traffic, and that do not replace the bicycle with the car,
the car should be used in recreation and do shopping on festivals
or holidays.
Beijing proposed the principle of bus priority in 80's of last century.
At the present time, Beijing has the largest public transit network
and the bus convey using the clean fuel in the world, but there
is very great disparity in the development of public transit to
compare with developed country. In developed countries, public transportation
shares 60-80% of commuter's traffic, but its share of total traffic
volume is only 26% in Beijing and this proportion also drops year
by year, it is only about 24% at present.
Beijing has already made the detailed development tactics of public
transit in order to guarantee that the public transit has priority.
The first large capacity bus lane in Beijing -16 kilometers bus
lane of Southern Zhongzhou Road will be put into running next year.
Beijing would also build about 120 kilometers of large capacity
public transit systems in the places such as Zhong Guan-cun, Chaoyang
Road etc. in 2004. The total mileage of this system will reach to
200 kilometers by 2008, and the system will link up organically
with the rail traffic, forming the large capacity public transit
network.
Exchanging and learning from each other let the smiling and service
more rooted in the hearts of the people.
