A total of 280.6 billion yuan (about 35 billion U.S. dollars) will be used in construction of transport facilities in North China's Hebei Province in the coming five years.

The province will use 120 billion yuan to build expressways in the coming five years and the total length of expressways will reach 4,500 km by the end of 2010, according to a provincial meeting on transportation work.

During the 2006-2010 period, the central government will spend 88.8 billion yuan and the Hebei Province will invest 6.8 billion yuan in construction of railways with a total length of 2,018 km.

By the end of 2010, the length of railways will reach 6,000 km.

Other projects will include expansion of the handling capacity of harbors and highways in rural areas across the province.
