Nepal to Build Highway to Link with China

A senior government official has said that Nepal is set to construct highway to link Nepal with Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China, with the help of the Chinese government.

"With the help of the Chinese government, we are going to start construction of the much-hyped Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi highway this year,"Ram Sharan Mahat, the finance minister of Nepal told to the journalist.

In order to shore up bilateral trade with China, Nepal government is set to start construction of the highway, Mahat said at the 6th annual general meeting of Nepal Trans Himalayan Border Trade Association, a non-government organization which has trade relation only with China.

There is 115-km-long Araniko Highway in operation, the only one highway that links Nepal capital Kathmandu with TAR.

"The government has also plan to link that highway with the Prithvi Highway, one of the major highways of Nepal that links capital Kathmandu with other parts of the county, with assistance of Asian Development Bank," Mahat said.
