FAW
Group's new 2.0 liter JB8 automobile engine successfully underwent its first test
run at the FAW R&D Center on July 15. Mr. Zhu Yanfeng, president of FAW Group,
pressed a remote start button for the engine's ignition while Mr. Zhao Fangkuan,
FAW Group CPC secretary, simultaneously engaged the engine's computerized management
system. The
environmentally friendly and energy efficient JB8 engine successfully meets both
Euro 4 emissions standards and the energy saving requirements of China's second
stage passenger car fuel consumption regulations which take effect in 2008. Many
advanced technologies have been applied to this revolutionary new engine, including
double overhead camshafts (DOHC) with variable valve timing, variable air induction
system, drive-by-wire electronic throttle system, lightweight aluminum cylinder
block, and silent hydraulically-tensioned chain drive system. In addition, the
JB8 is available with both port fuel ignition (PFI) and common rail fuel systems.
The achievements of FAW's FEUPI system reflect FAW R&D Center's world class
level and culture for promoting technical innovation. The Center has overcome
the challenges of designing next generation automotive electronic control systems
through the development of advanced control software and key actuators (unit pump).
FAW Group is a leading global manufacturer of quality passenger cars,
trucks, and buses. Established in 1953, the company is China's oldest and largest
automotive group. Annual sales exceed one million units.
