In 2005, China exports of assembled automobiles and parts reached US$10.9 billion in value, a share of less than 1 % in the world market. Yet a 34 % increase shows China's great export potential in this field.

In 1995 exports of automobiles and parts in China were valued at US$1.45 billion, but the figure has grown by 40 % annually for the last five years. The export of assembled vehicles grows by 70 % each year. In the first half of this year, China exported 34,500 auto vehicles to 207 countries and regions, exceeding the total number of exports from last year. According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the export of automobiles and parts will reach US$70 billion by the end of the 11th Five-year Plan.
