Chinese Automaker Hopes to Export SUVs to US in Two Years

12-01-2007

China's Changfeng Motor hopes to break into the North American market within two years time, exporting SUVs and pickup trucks to the US.

According to Xinhua, company chairman Li Jianxin says they're in talks with a US partner. No mention though of what company.

Changfeng is the second Chinese carmaker after Geely to display at the North American International Auto Show.

Other Chinese automakers also say they plan to expand to the United States but none has done so yet.

Chinese automakers are starting to export to lower-income markets in Asia and elsewhere.

But according to Xinhua, industry analysts say they are likely to have trouble meeting U.S. safety and emissions standards.
