China must Regulate Auto Exports to Russia

09-07-2007

As more Chinese auto manufacturers enter the Russian market, China should intensify its management of car exports, said Fu Peizhao, deputy secretary-general of the auto department under the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products.

Statistics show that there were 153 Chinese enterprises engaged in auto exports to Russia last year. Among them, only 37 companies or 24.2 percent each made revenues of more than US$1 million from exports in 2006, and export revenues and volumes of the other 116 enterprises combined made up less than five percent of the total.

As a result of China's efforts to regulate the auto export market, the number of export enterprises to Russia was cut to a total of 68 in the first four months of this year. About 30 are large-scaled ones which exported autos worth over US$1 million in the period.
