Jinhua
Neoplan Vehicle Co Ltd has agreed with Malaysian Proton Holdings Berhad to co-build
two sports cars under the Lotus brand and put them on sale at the end of the year,
said sources from Jinhua Neoplan. Jinhua Neoplan has remained low key about its
cooperation with the British brand. It has also played down the fact that it helped
build the exhibition platform for three Lotus vehicles, the Europa, the Gen-2,
and a multi-purpose vehicle, at the Beijing Auto Show last year and spurred speculation
that the two cars to debut later this year may be those exhibited, the Europa
and the Gen-2. Jinhua
Neoplan's production base in Jinan, Shandong province will be turning out 150,000
cars annually. The company takes the lead in the field of development speed and
production scale of the saloon cars.
