December 1988, Kinglong was founded in a simple concrete pipe factory beside Fang
Lake in southeastern Xiamen province, with 5 millions Yuan RMB startup funds.
It was difficult for Kinglong to produce the first batch of vehicles, the only
way they did is to buy a exported bus, then coping to assemble the exported vehicle
parts, at last to sell with the brand of Kinglong. From
zero to a breakthrough of 100 unit vehicles sold, Kinglong had two years time
to finish it and finally,personnel were confident about themselves and vehicles.
After 4 years, Kinglong had finished the 1000th vehicle, creating a new record
in its history. Meanwhile, China began a joint venture wind, many domestic enterprises
started to cooperate with international famous brands based on the exchange of
shares and markets by technologies. But Kinglong itself made a independent development
way. Original
Kinglong enterprise consisted of four production bases, including Xiamen, Suzhou,
Wuhan, Shaoxing and a sales company, and its shares were average held by four
corporations with 25% respectively. But for gaining high benefits in luxury bus
and coach field, finally Kinglong enterprise was divided into three parts, which
are now named Xiamen Golden Dragon, Suzhou Kinglong and Xiamen Kinglong. Kinglong
was badly hurt by the separation. Nowadays,
Kinglong has recovered, aiming to build the largest bus and coach base in Xiamen
with 30 thousand unit vehicles planed goal in 2008. Kinglong already had sold
buses and coachs 11.102 unit vehicles from Jan to Nov in 2007, up 24% compared
with the same period. The advantage to Kinglong is on complete vehicle technology,
and recently, parts manufacturing have rapid development in Xiamen, which are
also help Kinglong create more benefits from parts assembly. In March 2006, another
new base was set up for Kinglong and was put into production. Kinglong has a new
home in Xiamen, Xiaoxiong Lin, board chairman of Kinglong said, no matter what
happens, no matter how many bases built in another countries or cities, Xiamen
will always be the root of Kinglong.
