| 29-02-2008 Shanghai-based
auto maker SAIC Motor Corp Ltd said it has completed the first-phase construction
of its technology center and put into operation soon. The
technology center, located in Anting, a town of Shanghai, will be the research
and development base for SAIC to manufacture cars with independent intellectual
property, and the total investment will be RMB 4 billion. The
first-phase project, which cost RMB 700 million with an area of 250,000 square
meters, will be able to design and develop complete automobiles. The construction
of the technology center, together with two technology centers in Korea and Britain
acquired by SAIC Motor, will greatly enhance the auto maker's technological capacity.
Currently,
over 1,000 SAIC technicians from the U.K., Italy, South Korea as well as China
have moved into the center. It was estimated that the number of researchers in
the Shanghai center will be expanded to 2,000 by 2010, and 3,000 by 2012.
